A man was threatened with an angle grinder and ordered to 'back off' when he confronted two suspected bike thieves at Birmingham's New Street Station. Bilal Baig was using the drop and go tunnel when he saw two men at the cycle racks.

Both men were wearing hoodies and sunglasses and were quickly slicing through locks using what appears to be an angle grinder. When Mr Baig asked them what they were doing, he was told to 'f**k off, back off' and shown the cutter.

The men left riding a cycle and an electric scooter. Mr Bilal filmed the incident which happened around 1pm on Saturday (June 3) and has reported it to West Midlands Police.

Mr Baig, 37, from Great Barr, said: "I was dropping someone off and I saw these two guys with hoodies and sunglasses. They were using grinders to cut the locks off the bikes.

"They took a bike and an electric scooter. I asked 'what are you doing' and one of them pointed his grinder, swore at me and said 'get back'.

"I thought would they attack me with it. It took them four or five minutes and they rode away."

He added: "I rushed to find the police at the top of New Street Station by the John Lewis car park. There were two cars but no officers.

"I'm shocked this happened in broad daylight in front of people." Mr Baig then reported the incident to West Midlands Police who said they would check CCTV.

The force said they had received a report of an electric scooter and bike stolen in Navigation Street today. Anyone with information should contact them on 101 or livechat quoting log 2062.
