Our fence was tired & different heights so we revamped it with a bargain buy

May 12, 2023May 12, 2023

WITH the warmer weather finally here, we’re all planning to spend as much of this weekend in the garden as possible.

And like most of us, Kathyrn has used the last few weeks getting her patio summer ready.

But her fence needed more than a quick jet wash and a lick of paint.

Sick of her uneven panels, the DIY pro decided to give it a quick glow-up using two budget buys - and it's given them a little more privacy from their neighbours too.

Kathyrn said: "Take one very annoying multi-height fence…

"Add wooden trellis to the top to even the height (check with your neighbours first).

"Take a botanical green wall and attach it to the trellis and fence."

Jokingly, she added: "If necessary, rope in the family to help.

"Sit back and enjoy!"

Below the reel, she added: "So pleased with how the addition of the @evergreendirect botanical green wall has helped to tidy up our old multi-height fences.

"We bought the same thing last year for our decking area and were so impressed with it we’ve used the same for the other side of the garden."

During the short reel, Kathryn shared a glimpse at her garden beforehand.

Despite its modern finish, the wooden panels painted in a chic charcoal colour, the panels all finished at different heights, allowing her neighbours a prime view into her backyard.

She then went on to share how she and her partner gave it a budget glow-up, first trimming down a trellis to add to the top of each fence panel to even it out.

They then attached artificial plant panels to the top of each panel, covering the trellis, using nails and an electric drill.

Finally, the pair finished off their luxe-looking patio with a rattan corner sofa and matching table.

Kathyrn also confirmed in the comments that they painted and finished their neighbours' side of the fence in the same way too.

Shoppers can pick up trellis panels from various retailers, including B&Q, with prices starting at £13.95.

And while Kathyrn's plant panels cost a whopping £289, keen DIYers can pick up something similar from IKEA and Shein for as little as £3.

Fans loved the savvy idea, with the DIY gaining more than 3,500 likes and 202,000 views.

In the comments, Instagrammers shared their reactions, with one writing: "What a brilliant idea.

"Looks lush hun… we're looking for something as once the trees at the back of ours shed you can see up onto the pavement behind and we're right by a school so have lots of kids peering in," commented another.

A third added: "It looks fab."

Although not all were convinced, with another adding: "I would rather have the real thing than plastic poor birds won't be nesting in that."

"Looks lovely, but wud this not fade in the sun making it look cheap… surely for what that must of cost u wud of been better with real trees," commented another.

Someone else shared: "It's not too bad but looks unnatural sitting on top of a fence at that height. Hedges grow from the ground."
